"Neue Heimat" Child of the 60's. Youth in Europe: always somewhere along the Rhine river. A stint in Southeast Asia. Today: At home in Queens, a multicultural world of its own on planet New York. Gateway for new, hopeful immigrants to the US of America. Married, two kids.
Profession and Passion Business Administration and Economics at University of Cologne, Germany. Student-run marketing and consulting projects in Germany, and with IBM in Singapore, then a booming Little Tiger. Early start in Journalism: the proverbial small town newspaper (while in school), then radio and TV. For years, a productive part of the 24/7 news cycle. Starting 1999: US-correspondent for German Public Radio (ARD) in Washington, DC. Since: Freelance business correspondent and writer.
Main areas of work Career came full circle in New York City: The reporter's business background proves more than useful in the center of corporate America, while issues of politics, science, and society are not being neglected. Primary area of work today: Radio feature production (30-plus minutes), in-depth reporting rather than headlines. The more this allows for turning a few transatlantic clichés on their heads, the better.
Current projects Countless road trips on assignment in the US. Most recently, visits to suburban Maryland and New Jersey: "The Suburbs are running on empty: dead end for the American Dream?" How climate, and energy changes, and the recession, shape the face of a new America. In preparation: "Rotting America" - implications of a failed investment policy. |
