I am a journalist and documentary filmmaker. I came to the States in 1994 for one year, but never booked my return ticket. For a few years, I worked as a free lance journalist for Swiss radio International, the Journal de Genève and a few other newspapers and radios. In 1998, I became the first US correspondent of the newly launched Swiss national newspaper Le Temps.
Because I couldn't imagine living in Geneva when my assignement ended, I went back into free-lancing in 2001, working this time mainly as a TV producer and a documentary film writer and director for several French and Swiss public television channels. In 2003, I co-directed "Hollywood and the Pentagon: a dangerous liaison" for Canal Plus (46'), nominated for the Adolf Grimme Preis in Germany. I wrote and codirected several other documentaries, among them "The 100 Blacks" on racism inside the NYPD for ARTE (2001-26'), "Philadelphia: Fat City" for France2 (2002-26'), "The New Democrats" for ARTE (2004-26').
In 2006, I started writing a blog: www.mariapia.blogs.com |
