Katarina Andersson

I visited New York for the first time ten years ago and fell in love with the city on day one.

Not sure if it was the fact that I during a stroll down Seventh Avenue suddenly found myself surrounded by sirens, firetrucks and beefed-up firefighters putting out a minor fire ( the movie feeling), the skyscrapers, the incredible energy or the crazy fun of my drop in visit to the Howard Stern show (where he took a look at my armpits to see if Europeans really shave). But it doesn´t matter.

I came back to New York City again and again and finally settled down in Brooklyn, now working for multiple major Scandinavian media outlets – mainly for the Public Radio in Sweden, Norway and Finland.

I began my carrier in radio with an internship at the Swedish National Radio during my studies in journalism. I was first reporting for the young, hip radio station P3 as a "run-around-the-city"-reporter, then turned show host and was hosting the afternoon talk show and later on the morning show.

When I grew older and got less hip, I turned to Swedish National Television, where I became the host of a daily current affairs show.  Sadly, I didn´t like the dress code at the show, so one day I decided to wear long stockings and a short skirt on air and got cussed out by my boss. It was clearly time to leave. Who wants to look like a helplessly unfashionable bore in front of the Swedish people?

For the next few years I was working as a reporter or producer at several different radio and TV-shows in Sweden.  Until the urge for living in New York got urgent and I put my stuff, my son and myself on a plane to the USA.

I started out covering the presidential election for Swedish TV 4 in 2004. For this year's historic election I´m contracted to work with Swedish National Radio.

Freelance life in New York has been every bit as rewarding, exciting and interesting as I'd hoped it would be, and I look forward to it continuing for a long, long time.

In the future I´ll host a show with Anderson Cooper at CNN. He doesn't know it yet, but I´m determined. The name of the show? Andersson and Anderson, of course.
